Buying tickets for Line 1 of the HCMC Metro
Tickets can be bought at the ticket office at the station, via the vending machines, or by card or app payment at the ticket gate.
Paper tickets
Paper tickets are available at the ticket office at the station. The tickets have a QR code which can be scanned at the card reader in front the entrance to the ticketed area.

Paper tickets are being phased out, so these tickets were a short-lived option.
Vending machine tickets
Tickets are available at the ticket vending machines at the station.

The ticketing touchscreen has information in Vietnamese and English.
The vending machines currently only accepts cash payments.

The largest denomination accepted is 100,000 VND, and the machine will indicate if it is not accepted.

The machines have the facility to accept coins, though the use of coins is extremely rare to non-existent.
The State Bank of Vietnam resumed issuing coins in 2003, and withdrew distribution 2011. Coin denominations included 200, 500, 1,000, 2,000, and 5,000. The machine shows 1,000, 2,000, and 5,000. (Read more about the coins at Wikipedia). The metro began construction in 2012, so maybe the design of this vending machine was committed to in 2012.

A Single Journey Ticket (SJT) includes a deposit of 15,000 VND

A Stored Fare Card (SFC) is issued for 1-day, 3-day, and stored fare tickets, and it includes a deposit of 35,000 VND.

The card deposit can be refunded at the vending machine. Insert your card into the “Card Inlet” to claim the refund.
The display screen will show how the amount to be returned, and the refund is returned in the Bill Outlet tray. A receipt is also issued.
A Single Journey Ticket can’t be reused, so you have to return the ticket. If you are going to be using the metro frequently then you are better off getting the Stored Fare Card. This card can be topped up and it is valid for one year.
To use the tickets that are issued from the vending machine, tap in and out at the entry gate.
Card and app payments
Single rides can be purchased by tapping your debit/credit card or mobile payment app.
Card payments are accepted with Mastercard, Visa, and NAPAS.
Digital wallet payments are accepted from MoMo and Zalopay.
Passengers can pay via the HCMC Metro HURC app.
Passengers can use identification cards (ID) or chip-based citizen ID cards to purchase a standard monthly pass via the HURC app.
The card and app reader is the separate reader in front of the ticket gate.
