Opera House Station

Opera House Station (Ga Nhà Hát Thành Phố) is in District 1 and is the second underground station after Ben Thanh Station. The station is named after Saigon Opera House, which is a historic landmark near the station.

The platforms are on separate levels. Platform 1 for trains to Ben Thanh is on Basement Floor 2, and Platform 2 for trains to Suoi Tien is on Basement Floor 4.

Opera House Station gates

There are five gates for Opera House Station.

Gate 1 is on Le Loi, in front of the shops of the Rex Hotel. This is the only gate with an escalator going up. There is no way to enter the station from this gate.

Gate 2 is on Le Loi towards Pastuer Street.

Gate 3 is on Le Loi in front of the station ventilation tower. This is on an empty block of land that was previously the Saigon Tax Trade Centre. The land is reserved for the proposed Okura Prestige Saigon Hotel.

Gate 4 is on the corner of Le Loi and Dong Khoi, next to the Union Square building. This is the only gate with an elevator.

The Union Square building is the future site of the Mandarin Oriental, Saigon. This project has stalled, though some maps are showing it as active.

Gate 5 is on Le Loi, opposite the park in front of the Opera House.

Sights near Opera House Station

The Saigon Opera House.

The old town hall (now the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee).

Nguyen Hue Walking Street.

42 Nguyen Hue (old apartment block with many cafes).

Hotels near Opera House Station

Rex Hotel Saigon (5-Star) is a luxury hotel near the old town hall.

Caravelle Saigon Hotel (5-Star) is next to the Opera House and is best known for being a base for journalists during the war.

Sheraton Saigon Grand Opera Hotel (5-Star) is a block away from the Opera House on Dong Khoi.

Hotel Continental Saigon (4-Star) is one of the most iconic hotels from the French colonial era.

Asian Hotel (3-Star) is on Dong Khoi Street, near the Continental.
