Monorail 2 of the HCMC Metro was a proposed monorail connecting Highway No.50 – Nguyen Van Linh – Tran Nao – Xuan Thuy – Binh Quoi Urban area (Binh Thanh District), total length of 27.2 km.
Monorail 2 has been replaced by Line 7 on the updated masterplan. Line 7 follows the same path of the Monorail 2 plan with some extensions and adjustments to the route.

South Korea finances more than USD 2 million to study the Monorail No. 2 in HCMC – [26/10/17]
“HCMC Metro line PMU said that the study on the project to build a monorail line No. 2 (Highway 50 – Binh Quoi Urban Area) will be carried out during one year from June 2019 to May 2020.
Funding for this is USD 2.04 million, non-refundable granted by the Korea International Cooperation Agency.
It is expected that the monorail line No. 2 will use tires, powered by electrically on separate bridge and unmanned. It consists of 6 cars, carrying 316 passengers at a speed of 30-70 km/h.”

“Italia-Thailand Development Public Co, Ltd (ITD) and Ho Chi Minh City Urban Railway Management Board have signed a memorandum of understanding on investment cooperation to build the monorail No.2 and 3 and metro route No.4.”
“The monorail No 2 with nearly 14 kilometers in length starting from East-West Highway, running along Nguyen Van Linh Street to National Road No 50, has a total investment of about $350 million.”
